Abstract

Due to global competition, product complexity increasing, and rapid advancement of technology, speeding up product development and has become one of the major goals in enterprises. The implantation of Lean Production in Toyota's Production System has been a success and has been exercised to an extreme level, many enterprises has been trying to follow the same model and the practice of Lean Thinking has become an important key in management subject.

In this study/research, we try to connect the wasting issues occurred during the manufacturing phase to the development phase and the Lean tools that are widely used in the manufacturing phase through the five principles: value, value stream, flow, pull and perfection of Lean Thinking. Further, discuss the co-relation analysis that were implanted with the Lean tools to reduce and minimize the unnecessary wasting in the new product development, and shorten the production cycle to make the entire development process more efficient.

Based on the above analysis, opinions from expert were identified by screening factor analysis with the “fuzzy Delphi method”. According to this analysis, based on the five principles of Lean Thinking, the experts agree that eight kinds of wasting during the development phase could be avoided by three Lean tools. This study/research provides three kinds of Lean tool to improve the wasting issues in product development phase, so that limited resources(including time)can be optimized to be used to achieve greater efficiency and enhance the competiveness of the enterprise.
